Islamic Stories in English: Prophet Shu'ayb (AS) title thumbnail featuring an ancient village landscape with traders and camels.

Prophet Shu’ayb (peace be upon him) was sent by Allah to a people called Madyan. They lived in a land where many people were traders.

But the people of Madyan had a serious problem. They were not honest when they bought and sold things. Some shopkeepers used to give less food than they promised. They also used false weights and measures.

Prophet Shu’ayb (AS) cared about his people. He wanted them to live honestly and obey Allah.

He said, “My people! Worship Allah. You have no god except Him. Give full measure and full weight. Do not cheat people.”

Prophet Shu’ayb (AS) reminded them that Allah was watching everything they did.

But many people did not listen. They laughed at him and became angry.

They said, “Shu’ayb, do you want us to leave the way our fathers lived?”

Prophet Shu’ayb (AS) stayed patient. He did not stop teaching them.

He told them, “I only want to make things better as much as I can. My success comes only from Allah.”

Some people believed Prophet Shu’ayb (AS), but many continued to cheat and disobey Allah.

Allah warned the people again and again. But they refused to change.
