The Birth of Harun (AS) and Musa (AS) Under Pharaoh’s Rule

To understand the story of Prophet Harun (AS) and Prophet Musa (AS), we must first look at the dangerous world into which they were born.
During that time, Egypt was ruled by a ruthless king named Pharaoh. Driven by fear that a boy from Bani Isra’il would one day end his reign, Pharaoh issued a cruel decree: every newborn baby boy from Bani Isra’il was to be executed, while girls were spared.
However, Allah had a divine plan that no king could prevent.
  • The Birth of Harun (AS): Harun (AS) was born first, during a year when Pharaoh’s soldiers were not killing baby boys—or before the command was strictly enforced. Because of this, he was born safely without the immediate threat to his life, allowing him to grow up peacefully under the protection of his family.
  • The Birth of Musa (AS): Musa (AS) was born three years later, during the very year Pharaoh ordered all baby boys to be killed. To protect her newborn, Musa’s mother received an inspiration from Allah to place him in a wooden basket and set him floating down the River Nile. By Allah’s decree, the basket drifted right into Pharaoh’s palace, where Pharaoh’s wife, Asiya (RA), fell in love with the baby and convinced Pharaoh to adopt him.

In this incredible way, Allah protected both brothers and raised Musa (AS) right inside the home of the tyrant he would one day confront.

Prophet Harun (AS) and Musa (AS) shared an extraordinary bond throughout their mission. To dive deeper into how Musa (AS) was raised in Pharaoh’s palace and his journey as a prophet, check out my detailed guide on the Story of Prophet Musa (AS) .
