The story of Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) is a powerful lesson in courage, faith, and standing up for truth. Long ago, Prophet Lut (AS) lived during the same time as his uncle, Prophet Ibrahim (AS). He grew up learning about the oneness of Allah and the importance of living a righteous life.
Prophet Lut (AS) in Sodom
The city of Sodom was filled with wrongdoing, and travelers were often mistreated as they passed through the land. Prophet Lut (AS) continuously reminded the people to fear Allah, show kindness to visitors, and return to good morals.
Despite his patience, the leaders of the town rejected his warnings and challenged him, demanding that he stop preaching or leave the town entirely.
Prophet Lut (AS) remained firm, knowing that obeying Allah is always more important than seeking approval from corrupt communities.
Allah selected Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) to bring light to this dark city. With patience and kindness, he spoke to the people: “My people, worship Allah alone! Fear Him and turn away from these bad deeds before it is too late.”
Instead of listening, the people mocked him and threatened to drive him out of the town. Despite their anger, Prophet Lut (AS) never stopped calling them to do good.
His persistence reminds us of earlier messengers who stood firm in teaching truth, such as when you read the Story of Prophet Adam (AS) or explore how the Story of Prophet Idris (AS) taught early humanity about faith and wisdom.
The Angels’ Message and Rescue
After many years, when the people refused to repent, Allah sent angels disguised as handsome young men to visit Prophet Lut (AS).When the angels arrived at Prophet Lut’s (AS) home in human form, he felt deeply concerned for their safety because of the townspeople’s wicked habits.
When the townspeople gathered to harm his guests, the angels revealed their true identity to Lut (AS): “Do not fear or grieve. We are messengers from your Lord. Allah’s punishment is coming upon this town, but you and the believers will be saved.”
The angels instructed Prophet Lut (AS) and his followers to leave the city during the night and not look back. By morning, a heavy punishment came upon Sodom for their persistent disobedience. Prophet Lut (AS) and the righteous believers were safely rescued by Allah.

رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ
Rabbi najjini wa ahli mimma ya’maloon.
Meaning: “My Lord, save me and my family from what they do.” (Surah Ash-Shu’ara 26:169)
